The College of the Ozarks men’s basketball team closed out the C of O Classic Saturday evening with a 98-84 victory over the Ecclesia Royals of Springdale, Arkansas.
The contest opened with each team trading three-point makes on four consecutive possessions. While the ensuing C of O possession resulted in a Heath Carmichael miss, the Bobcat senior from Ozark connected on his next attempt for his 1000thcareer point with 17 minutes remaining.
The start of the game certainly had a modern basketball flair with each team attempting three-point shots on at least half of their first-half possessions. The Bobcats connected on 9 of 20 first-half three-point attempts, while the Royals went cold, hitting only 5 of 19 from distance. The Bobcats went into halftime with a lead of 49-29.
A steady dose of Ethan Davidson successful post-ups helped the Bobcats extend their advantage to 70-42 midway through the second half. However, the Royals would not go away easily with a 20-3 run to trim the Bobcat lead to 73-62.
The Royals attempted to crowd the post on Davidson, however, Brandt Cochran and Heath Carmichael landed multiple shots from long- and mid-range to extend the Bobcat lead back to 20 with just two minutes remaining. College of the Ozarks finished with a 98-84 win. The trio of Ethan Davidson, Brandt Cochran, and Heath Carmichael combined for 90 points to outscore the Ecclesia Royals by themselves (Davidson 40, Cochran 29, Carmichael 21).
The Bobcats’ record improved to 15-6 with the win. The Cats will face-off with Lincoln Christian University next on January 22 in Lincoln, Ill. at 7 PM.
