College of the Ozarks went on the road to match up with A.I.I. conference foe Crowley’s Ridge College (Ark.) on Tuesday evening. The Bobcats stepped off the bus with the hot hand outscoring CRC 52-28 in the first half on 51% shooting from the field and a scalding 57% from behind the three-point arc. C of O connected on 10 of their first 15 three-point attempts. Heath Carmichael and Ethan Davidson each put up a dozen first-half points, and Treydon Rackley chipped in 11 points and five boards.
Despite the Bobcats pushing the lead to as many as 20 points, CRC did not go away easily. Catching a hot streak of their own mid-way through the second half, Crowley’s Ridge was able to cut the Bobcat lead to just three points with five minutes remaining in the game. A subsequent CRC timeout served as a wakeup call for the Bobcats, as Coach Shepherd’s defense stepped up right when the Bobcats needed it.
Two quick Treydon Rackley steals started a string of CRC miscues that the Bobcats converted to buckets, extending the lead back to double digits. In total, the Bobcats forced 18 turnovers, which they transformed into 21 points. The Bobcats secured the win, 85-74.
Coach Steve Shepherd commented, “The turnovers we were able to create down the stretch, along with our balanced scoring, were key for us tonight. This was a hard-fought win in which we showed great teamwork, evidenced by our 24 assists.”
Ethan Davidson led all scorers with 23 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Treydon Rackley was a factor in all facets, contributing 22 points on 9 of 13 shooting, seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Heath Carmichael finished with 17 points, and Brandt Cochran scored 15. Storm Price had five assists and five steals.
The Bobcats return to action at home on Saturday, February 9th,, against Haskell Indian Nations University. Tip-off is at 5:00 PM.
