Kapella & Burgess Lead Bobcats in Darrel Gourley Open
College of the Ozarks men’s track and field team competed this past Saturday in the William Jewell Darrel Gourley Open. The event featured 19 teams, including some NCAA DII schools, as well as several athletes unattached to participating teams. Once again, the athletes faced tough conditions, as it was a cold and rainy day.
Sophomore Kyle Kapella (Hollister, Mo.) took 2nd place in the high jump at 1.90 meters (6'2.8") and freshman Preston Burgess (Springfield, Mo.) finished 3rd in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:14.44, his best performance of the season.
Also of note on the day:
Ryan Vance was 13th in the long jump at 5.73 meters (18’ 9.9”) and 14th in the 200 meter dash at 24:17;
Ty Durnell finished 14th in the javelin with a throw of 33.10 m (108’ 7.15”);
Sam Scaggs took 11th place in the 800 meter run with his best season performance at 2:01.49;
Preston Burgess took 13th in the 5000 meter run at 16:27.71, running his best time of the season.

The Bobcats will continue their quest to qualify for nationals, as they head this Saturday to Missouri University of Science & Technology in Rolla, Mo.
