The Lady Bobcats took care of business on the court Wednesday evening, defeating Crowley’s Ridge College (Ark.) by a score of 86-39 to close out Day Two of the CAM JAM Classic.
College of the Ozarks made the first score and Crowley’s Ridge responded with a basket of their own. After that, the Lady Bobcats went on a roll to post a 15-point advantage at the close of the first quarter. The second quarter saw the Bobcats hold the Pioneers to just seven points against 16 of their own, closing out the half with a 42-18 lead. Cass Johnson was the leading scorer with nine points at the half.
Crowley’s Ridge put up 14 points in the third quarter and were again held to only seven points in the fourth, as the Lady Bobcats scored 22 points each quarter.
Cass Johnson, who leads the Lady Cats in scoring this season with 16.6 points per game and is number 2 in NAIA DII in 3-point field goals made (59), exceeded her scoring average to tally 19 points as she drained five treys. Three other Lady Cats joined Johnson in double figures---Madi Brethower (11), Shelby Roberts (11), and Aleksei Smith (10). Kelsie Cleeton, who ranks number 1 in NAIA DII in total rebounds on the season (200) and number 2 in total steals (61), snagged a game-leading 12 rebounds and eight assists, while adding eight points and two steals. Coach Vest’s bench also garnered some significant playing time, recording 31 points, 26 rebounds, six assists, and five steals.
College of the Ozarks outrebounded the Pioneers 53-32, and turned the ball over just 10 times compared to Crowleys' 23. The Lady Cats shot 38.7% from the field, 41.9% in three pointers, and 75% from the free throw line.
