College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcats collected their 19th win of the season Friday evening, defeating A.I.I. opponent Northern New Mexico College by a score of 97-40.
The Lady Bobcats took a four-point lead with 7:28 remaining in the first quarter, and they never looked back. While NNMC turned the ball over five times, the Lady Cats drained five three-point shots—two apiece by Cass Johnson and Madi Brethower, and one by Ashley Forrest—to garner a 29-10 advantage at the close of period one.
The second quarter was more of the same, as NNMC suffered nine turnovers and were held to just four points by the Lady Bobcats. Meanwhile, CofO drained five more three pointers to close out the half with a 56-14 advantage.
In the final two quarters, the Lady Bobcats proceeded to add 41 points, and the Eagles scored 26 to close out the game at 97-40.
For the game, the Lady Bobcats outrebounded the Eagles 55-25 and snagged 13 steals to NNMC’s five. The Lady Cats shot 46.8% from the field, swishing 14 three pointers, as NNMC struggled with a 29.6 field goal percentage, hitting only 2 of 15 three-point attempts.
The Lady Bobcats had five players score in double figures, led by Cass Johnson with 16 and followed by Lakin Simmerman (13), Madi Brethower (13), Sheby Roberts (13), and Abby Oliver (12). Freshman Kyra Hardesty led CofO in rebounds with 10. Kelsie Cleeton nabbed a game-leading five steals, and Shelby Roberts dished a game-high five assists. The Lady Bobcat bench played 90 of the 200 minutes, approximately 45% of the game, scoring 33 points, collecting 12 rebounds, and snagging five steals.
The NAIA DII #3 Lady Bobcats take their record to 19-1 on the season and will face Johnson & Wales University (CO) on Saturday at 5PM to close out the College of the Ozarks/Aii Classic.
