The College of the Ozarks Bobcat golf team opened up their week at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, as they participated in the Evangel Fall Invitational.
Day One saw freshmen Caleb Davis and Sam Watson post scores of 79 to position them in a tie with two other golfers at 30th place. Braeden Sconce posted his best round of the season in competition with an 80 (T35th). Chandler Tidwell completed the “top four” scoring for the team with a round of 87. The team total for Day One of 325 placed the Bobcats in 9th place of 12 teams participating.
The 7,066 yard, par 72 course played a little tougher for the Bobcats on Day Two, as the team posted a score of 345, placing them 9th of 9 teams for the tournament. Caleb Davis played well, scoring a 78, which allowed him to finish in a tie for 28th place. Sam Watson and Braeden Sconce both faced some struggles and posted an 89 and 93 respectively. Chandler Tidwell took a couple strokes off his Monday game to finish with an 85 in Tuesday’s round.
Being a very young, first-year team, the Bobcats have been extremely excited to compete, but somewhat cautious as to their expectations for success. "We are working hard every day to build our program, and we have seen many positive strides of improvement," commented head coach Chris Larsen. "Consistency and patience are qualities we continue to pursue."
The Bobcat team will spend a couple of weeks practicing at Buffalo Ridge in preparation for their next tournament, which will be held in Columbia, Missouri on October 2-3.
