College of the Ozarks men’s basketball traveled to Espanola, New Mexico this past weekend to play two games against A.I.I. opponent Northern New Mexico College. The Eagles, coming off two losses, were eager for a victory, and they proceeded to capture two wins over the Bobcats, 79-66 on Friday and 88-75 on Saturday.
In Friday’s game, the Eagles got off to a quick lead, scoring 38 points and holding the Cats to 28 in the first half. CofO picked up the pace in the second half, scoring 38, but could not overtake NNMC. The Eagles shot 48.4%, while the Bobcats hit 34.8% of their shots. The Eagles also held a 50-34 advantage in rebounds
Stat leaders for the Bobcats featured Ethan Davidson and Canyon Smith with 17 and 16 points respectively. Heath Carmichael grabbed six rebounds, while Calvin Allen and DeMon Hyler provided 3 assists apiece.
On Saturday, the Eagles closed out the first half with a 14-point lead, and despite outscoring NNMC in the second half, the Bobcats fell 88-75. The Bobcats and Eagles both improved their shooting percentage, with CofO hitting 22-59 (37.3%) and NNMC going 31-62 (50%).
Freshman guard Calvin Allen was the leading scorer for the Bobcats, collecting 20 points, as he hit two three-pointers and made 8 of 11 free throws. He also led the team in rebounds with four. Heath Carmichael picked up 14 points, including four treys.
The Bobcats will play at home this weekend, facing another A.I.I. opponent, Johnson & Wales-Denver. College of the Ozarks men will play at 3 PM of Friday and Saturday. The Lady Cats will host the A.I.I. Classic, with games at 1 and 5 PM both days. The Lady Cat games will be played at 5 PM.
