Four Cross Country Runners Named Scholar Athletes

Cross CountryCongratulations go out to cross country team members Torri Holder, Loyal Carpenter, Sam Scaggs, and Shane York, who were named as 2017 Scholar Athletes by both the  National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA).

In order to be named a Scholar Athlete, competing student-athletes must be a junior or senior and hold a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.4 (NCCAA) or 3.5 (NAIA) on a 4.0 scale. Achieving scholar athlete status at College of the Ozarks is especially difficult because all students are required to work 15 hours per week at their on-campus work station. Maintaining a high GPA while juggling classroom participation, homework, competitions, travel, and practices is quite a feat.

Loyal Carpenter is a senior majoring in business administration: management, Sam Scaggs is a junior majoring in engineering,  junior Shane York is an elementary education/early childhood major, and senior Torri Holder is majoring in agriculture agronomy.
