College of the Ozarks men’s basketball team faced off Tuesday evening against the Grace Bible College (Mich.) Tigers and collected their 11th win of the season.
The first half found the Bobcats struggling against the Tigers, as the Cats shot only 28.1% from the field versus a 50% shooting performance by Grace. The Tigers also out-rebounded CofO by a 24-14 margin. The Cats trailed by as many as 15 points before closing out the half at a 12-point disadvantage, 43-31.
In the second half, CofO opened up with a seven-point run to close the gap to five points. GBC managed to pull ahead by nine points at the 17:12 mark, but C of O continued to chip away in bits and pieces until they tied up the game at 60-60 for the first time with 9:11 remaining. The Bobcats took a one-point lead with 4:48 remaining on a Calvin Allen steal followed up by a two-point basket by DeMon Hyler, and the Cats never looked back. While the GBC Tigers drew to within one point at the 3:07 mark, the Cats continued to battle and retained their lead, finishing with an 80-77 victory.
GBC tallied 20 turnovers to CofO’s ten, but outrebounded the Cats 39-30. Free throw shooting was key for the Bobcats, as they drained 23 of 29 attempts.
The Bobcats were led in scoring by Brandt Cochran (17 points), Ethan Davidson (15), and Ryan Burland (10). Davidson collected a team-leading nine rebounds and five assists. Cochran also nabbed three steals.
The Bobcats will play Crowley’s Ridge College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.at the Keeter Gymnasium in Day Two of the McDonald’s CAM JAM Classic.
