College of the Ozarks track and field had five team members participate Thursday and Friday in the NCCAA Track & Field National Championships hosted by Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana.
On Thursday, Mia Vincent competed in the 100 meter and 200 meter dash preliminaries, while Ty Durnell and Miles Mrowiec threw the javelin. On Friday, Sam Scaggs and Ty Durnell ran the 800 meter race, and Kyle Kapella competed in the high jump.
Head Coach McKenzie Larkin stated, “The weather was perfect for the events, and Grace College did a fantastic job of running the meet.”
The biggest highlight of the trip for College of the Ozarks was Kapella’s high jump of 1.98 meters, which earned him a tie for 2nd place with Jonah Lester of Bethel-Indiana.
Mrowiec finished 10th in the javelin with a mark of 43.97 meters and Durnell was 15th with a personal best of 40.39 meters. Scaggs finished 22nd in the 800 meter race with a time of 1:59.67, and Durnell was 31st at 2:11.84. Mia Vincent ran a 13:05 in the 100 meter dash prelims and a 27:43 in the 200m dash, but unfortunately did not qualify for the finals.
“All of the student-athletes did a great job,” commented Larkin. “This was a great opportunity for them to compete at the national level, and I’m very proud of their efforts.”
