Brethower Leads Lady Cats Over Welch

Lady Cat basketball continued their trip to Nashville on Saturday, defeating Welch College by a score of 89-29.

The Lady Cats had a slow start to the game with several turnovers, but turned the contest in their favor by the end of the first quarter with an 18-8 score. CofO outscored the Flames in the second quarter 25-8, including a made basket from half court at the buzzer by Kelsie Cleeton. 

CofO improved their play in the second half and gave up just five points in the third quarter while scoring 27.  They followed with another dominating quarter (19-8) to finish the game with an 89-29 final.

Madi Brethower led all scorers with 20 points, followed by Kelsie Cleeton and Cass Johnson with 15 and 14 points respectively. Cleeton added 14 rebounds to finish with another double-double, her seventh on the season.  She also contributed a team-high four assists and four steals. Brethower nabbed four steals of her own. Every Lady Cat player scored and pulled down at least one rebound in the contest. 

CofO shot 52% from the field and 36% from the three-point line, while Welch shot 24% and did not make a three-point shot.  CofO forced 29 turnovers and had 17 of their own. The Lady Cats also held a 46-30 rebounding advantage.

CofO (10-1) will continue their stretch on the road with a game in Oklahoma City against Mid-America Christian University on Friday evening.  The Lady Evangels are currently receiving votes in the NAIA Div. I poll and will be a tough road test for the #4 DII Lady Cats.
