College of Ozarks Bobcats tipped off against Johnson and Wales University (CO) on Friday afternoon at the Keeter Athletic Complex in Point Lookout and closed out the day with their 13th victory, 80-76.
The Bobcats and Wildcats played within six point of each other through a good portion of the first twelve minutes before the Bobcats gained a greater advantage and eventually closed out the half with an eight-point lead, 38-30.
In the second half, the Bobcats extended their lead to as many as 14 points at the 10:30 mark, 64-50. But the Wildcats were not finished, as they went on a 19-5 run to tie the score at 69 with 5:44 remaining. The two teams continued to battle, and College of the Ozarks pulled to a 78-73 lead with nine second remaining when JWU’s Jontrell Herman hit a three-pointer to draw the Wildcats within two points. Bobcat freshman Calvin Allen came up big in the last nine seconds, grabbing a defensive rebound and proceeding to make 3 of 4 free throws, giving the Bobcats a four-point win.
The leading scorers for both teams held true to form on Friday. JWU’s Andrew Romero III scored 31 points with eight rebounds and five steals, while Bobcat Ethan Davidson posted a double-double with 29 points and 11 rebounds. Canyon Smith put 12 points on the board for the Cats, and Calvin Allen also posted a double-double on the day with 10 points and 11 assists, while adding three steals and three rebounds.
Friday’s win takes the Bobcats’ record to 13-7 on the season, and JWU drops to 3-17. The two teams, now well aware of one another’s play, will meet up again on Saturday at 3 PM in Point Lookout.
