Hyler & Davidson Power Cats Over CRC

The Bobcats improved their season record to 19-10 on Tuesday evening as they traveled to Paragould, Arkansas and defeated Crowley’s Ridge College, 85-70.

For the second consecutive game, the Bobcats opened up with a three-pointer by Ethan Davidson. DeMon Hyler followed with a deuce, and the Cats grabbed a quick 5-0 lead over the Pioneers.  The Cats steadily increased their lead to take a 15-point advantage midway through the first half.  However, Crowley’s Ridge chipped away to close the gap to 8 at the half, with the Cats leading 43-35.  The Bobcats shot 44.4% for the half, with Davidson scoring 11 points and pulling down 8 rebounds.

The Pioneers returned from the locker room with purpose and proceeded to score seven unanswered points to draw within one of the Bobcats. The two teams traded baskets for a time before the Bobcats built an 11-point advantage with 9:56 remaining, but once again Crowley’s Ridge made a run and posted 10 unanswered points to pull within a one.  A short time later, with 4:08 left to play and ahead by three, a three-pointer by Calvin Allen off the assist by DeMon Hyler, seemed to be the spark that ignited a fire.  The Bobcats drained 12 consecutive points to take a 15-point lead, and they held on to take the 85-70 victory.

In many stat categories, the two teams were evenly matched—both with 10 steals, 14 turnovers, and CofO holding a 38-37 edge in rebounding.  However, the Bobcats shot 49.2% on the night 32-65, hitting 8 treys, while the Pioneers shot 40.9%, hitting only 3 of 19 three-point shots.

DeMon Hyler led the Cats with 21 points, as he went 8-12 from the field.  Ethan Davidson picked up a double-double, scoring 15 and hauling in 12 rebounds.  Treydon Rackley scored 12, while Canyon Smith and Calvin Allen each added 10.  Three Bobcats dished six assists: Allen, Davidson, and Ryan Burland. Davidson also nabbed 3 steals.

The Bobcats will close out their regular season at home on Saturday with Senior Day, as they face Ecclesia College at 2:00 p.m.
